    medical mileage

Client's son is in rehabilitation center 153 miles south of her home. Part of psychiatric rehabilition is on Tuesday evenings and some Sat mornings mother is required to be there and it's part of the session. Is the mileage back and forth (16,830 miles for the year) considered to be part of the medical expenses?
    Thank you for your response.

    Medical Mileage

Will say yes. See IRS Pub 502 under transportation. Also you might want to
check out as to what classifies as medical expense.
    Believe psychiatrist comes under that.

      Depends on who is paying

      >>Client's son is in rehabilitation center <<

Depends on who is paying for the expensive facility. Although you can ignore the $3300 income test, she still has to provide more than half his support in order to deduct his medical bills.
