    Child Tax Credit-MFS

Client, married, 1 child 5 yrs. old. Couple came over from another country.
Husband has Soc. Sec. No., Child has Soc. Sec. No. Wife does NOT have Soc. Sec. #
Wife is in process of trying to get her SSN. All 3 live together. Filing status is Married
filing Separately.Husband has W-2 with some interest income.
Husband is claiming daughter as dependent.
Is he also eligible for the Child tax credit?
Am not thinking clearly these days.
One other thing, they live in a community property state.
    Your help is appreciated.

I dont think you qualify for child tax credit if you use the MFS status.

TTB, 3-13; Pub 17, p. 22: CTC is available for MFS, but income limit is reduced by half.

Sorry...it was such a simple question and someone has to ask people to use the references before wasting our valuable time taxea

                Joint Return

File extension, wait 'til wife has SSN or ITIN, then file joint return

If she gets a genuine SSN (and not an ITIN), then they may qualify for EIC
