    Child Tax Credit

Is there a limitation on number of children in household to receive this credit? Also, is there any income limitations?

See Taxbook page 11-3, worksheet on 16-11 and also publication 972

Maximum Credit $1,000 per "qualifying" child.

There is an AGI phase-out MFJ above $110,000, single or HOH above $75,000, MFS above $55,000

If tax is -0- or reduced to -0- before credit is used, then there is an additional Child Tax Credit to be computed that might be refundable. Form 8812

Since the credit is good for the first 16 years of a qualifying childs life, then I would say the most credit allowed would be 16, having born another child every year for 16 years. Unless, there was a set of twins in the gaggle, or two sets, OK maybe more than 16 qualifying children. Though I would be suspicious of anyone claiming more than 18 or 19.

The world record holder is said to be Feodor Vassilyev, who had 69 kids by the first of his two wives. She gave birth to 16 pairs of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets. The children were born between 1725-1765 in Shuya, which is 150 miles east of Moscow.

          16*12/9=21.33 if no multiples.

Anna and the King of Siam

The King of Siam had more wives than I can count on the fingers of both hands and I believe he had dozens of children. I don't think he got any additional child credits.

There are apparently no limits on the number of children you can claim. I've thought of this too, as it's one of those questions which make you think "Since it's IRS giving me this, there must be some sort of catch or limit in there somewhere." But if there is, I can't find it in their books anywhere -- it's apparently one of those things that they simply
                and deliberately do not state.

Everytime I do some couple's return with $80-$90K and four kids, I "feel like" they're getting too much deductions (that $4K) for IRS to allow it -- after all, they're just not "poor enough" to get so much off. But anyway, I am and have been doing it and nobody's ever squawked about it yet.

But don't forget about Sandy's income limits which do apply.

Don't forget about raising grandchildren, siblings or their offspring! They can also be your qualifying children and qualify you for the CTC if they lived with you for more than 6 months and weren't self-supporting.

                    None of his kids

None of his kids were American citizens or residents of the U.S, Canada, or Mexico anyway.
