    Thoughts on the Tax Book

I would like to starrt a little conversation on the Tax Book. Specifically what every ones likes and dislikes are about it. This is my first year buying the book and I have been using it for a couple of weeks now.

    Likes:
    1) the first page of every tab. Having the quick and dirty right up front is great.
    2) This forum
    3) the listing of Pubs, Regs and Code sections for further review.
    4) The index it is easy to use and can help you find things fast

    Dislikes:
I have one and only one complaint or dislike up to this point. I bought the combined book and it is rather cumbersome. The pages I find are difficult to turn. I would like to see the book split into two. Or some other type of binding used.

To Brad and Paul wonderful job I enjoy the content and the thought process put into it. I don't mean for this to be a slight to you in any way. Just a forum for constructive advice and a arena for you to hear what your customers think.

I love The Tax Book and didn't know what I have done without it before!

I always get the 1040 Edition but next year I will get the Deluxe. 1040 only goes to Tab #17 and I wanted to see Tab #20-23 the other day and I didn't have it with the 1040 book.

Thanks to all that put the Tax Book together, it has helped me a lot!!!

Your likes and dislikes are exactly my thoughts.

I dropped it on my foot the other day and I still have a slight limp. I would also like it split into 2 plus additional books on more specific coverage such as depreciation (why should I buy from that other book outfit).

However, I think we are wasting our time suggesting it as the authors are very committed to having only one book because they only have room for one on their desk.

While I agree the pages are a little harder to turn, I appreciate just having one book. All I have to do is grab TTB and find the page. I don't need to check to see that I grabbed the right book.

This is my first year using TTB & I love it! It works great in a client meeting to find all the phase-outs, etc. Keep up the terrific work!

          Just two suggestions

[1] The web CD does not include the INDEX that is available at the end of the print version. This makes use of the Web CD version much less effective. The list of publications is available, but the list of forms and topics in the index is missing.

[2] The 1040 version and the Business versions should be available separately.

Next year I may order the Web CD deluxe edition and the 1040 version in print format. The missing index may still be some problem in dealing with corporations and partnership returns if left out of the CD.

I would be willing to pitch in to buy them a piece of plywood. We could nail it to the edge of their desk. Then there's more room.

              Tax Book

My first year and I like the books very much. Sometimes the summary tables are confusing as they are not labled as things to include or exclude.

But what I appreciate most is that the authors provide this board AND partcipate in providing answers. I'll be buying again next year, because the book is good and they go the extra step!

If they don't want to split the book , maybe they could go with a different type of binding so that the pages are more easily able to be turned. I not exactly sure what type but I am sure there is something out there.

                Brad or Paul any thoughts?

Second year using the book. I like having the combined edition in one book. It saves working in one book on a return and then having to find the other book for something in the business.

Haven't tried the CD version yet, so no opinion on it.

Only in government or politics is a "cut in spending" really an increase. It's just not as much of an increase as they wanted it to be, therefore a "cut".

When you compare our 1040 edition with Quickfinder’s 1040 edition, there is no difference in the comb binding. Therefore, we have no better way of binding the Deluxe edition.

OldJack, maybe you should wear boots when using our product.
I would disagree about the binding. I had a copy of the CCH book last year and found their binding to be better. The rings were huge, but I found it easier to turn pages. Otherwise, love TTB.

                      First Year

This is my first year to have the Tax Book and I love it and I had not noticed any problems with the binding until this thread came up. I went back and turned some pages and now see what everyone is talking about. But I was just so excited with the book that I never noticed that until now. I love it and will definitely be buying again next year. I think I prefer one book too. Just always have all information together in one place and not hunting for the second book. Keep up the good work. I love this forum too. Thanks to the authors for supplying us all with such usefull information.

I too am in the first year and agree with Bonnie. But, don't get the big head and jack (can I say that here - - notice not OldJack) the price up next year.

Brad, for a nice binding system..

take a look at the Kleinrock/ATX quick answer books which use a spiral that really works well. You put that binder on your content and joy will flow through the land...

I'm just happy to have the tax book as a reliable reference. I'm not sure I understand the problem with the size or the binder but to each there own. Would like to have the CD update sometime during tax season though.

                              The Tax Book

I think it is very good, this is my first year with it. The only problems I see is yes its
cumbersom. I have trouble with the small print and the print could be bolder.
