    taxable income or not

I have a taxpayer that recieves $200 per month from their mentally hadicapped child that is over age 19 and receiving SSI. Social security requires him to pay his parents this $200 per month. Is this taxable income? If so would you agree I can take a percentage of the utilities, taxes, insurance, etc proportionate to the square footage of the sons occupied area in the house vs the total house?

In actuallity the money is probably just reimbursing the parents for some of their out of pocket expenses.

    Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

I would treat it as reimbursement of out of pocket expenses.
