    Which State Taxes The Pension Income

    Cleint moved to Wisconsin from California July of 2006. Pension income from the state of california is being paid to them. Which state taxes the pension income?

      Pension income is only taxed by the state of residence. Your client will have part year WI and part year CA.

          Pro Rate

          You will pro rate the pension income to co-incide with the dates of residency change. Part Year return in Calif (probably had Calif withholding) and Part Year Wi (check on Wi withholding. in each.
