Native American Tax Exemption

I wonder if anyone has any experience with State of Michigan income tax exemption for native americans? I reserched it a little last year and from what I found, there is a form but the form comes from the tribe. I would appreciate any input. Thanks

here in the State of Arizona we exclude the income earned from state return if client worked and lived on reservation. He is going to need the tribe letter verifing that he does live and work on tribal land, if he/she gets audited.

This a case where it is a relative and I know he doesn't live or work on tribal land. His dad did tell him that he would qualify, I hope this isn't one of those tax myths that turn up so often this time of year.
