Not since OldJack started arguing with me. He's much better at it than Paul.

Congratulations Dave! I took the test and passed in 1991. I joined NAEA in April of 1992. I recommend that all EAs should join organizations such as NAEA, NATP, and NSA. These are the organizations that represent us small guys, and fight for our right to practice. If and when Congress passes National legislation requiring tax preparers to be licensed, I am confident these organizations will make sure EAs are grandfathered into the new requirements, which is well worth the cost of membership.

        Well there you go again!

Obviously the right to practice would be grandfathered by the IRS and not by your social organizations. The IRS is not going to shoot themselves in the foot and have congress diminish the EA status for its professional tax preparers. Those professional organizations you mention only benefit a few top dogs like you.

          Congrats!

[QUOTE=DaveinTexas;28760]I just wanted to brag, and I never do this.

I recently took the EA exam in Oct and Nov. and got my letters of congratulations that I passed all three parts! It was my first time taking the exam.

Good Job!! I passed mine on the first sitting back in the dark ages (1984).

            Congrats

to you Dave. I, too, was so relieved when I passed the exam 2 years ago.

JoshinNC - we're thinking good thoughts for you too.

              Dave

              Congratulations, Dave!

I took the exam and passed the same year Linda did. We were all so happy to get that letter and I'm so proud to be an EA!

              Dennis

PS: Fingers are crossed for you also, Josh!

                  Congrats guys!

I plan on taking the test when they restart the testing in May.

If I may ask how long did you guys study before taking the test?

                    Dave & Josh

Dave Congratulations! Do contact NAEA and also your local chapter. The local chapters usually have great monthly meetings.

Josh, we are waiting anxiously as you are!

                      Studying

                      geekgirldany,

I studied for months before the test, almost each day. I needed to! Not to memorize the questions, but what the questions were asking and apply that to what I was learning. Probably, sounds clear as mud to you. I'm having trouble putting this into words.

I understand what you are saying. I just went to the ArthurEA site and took some of their example questions from the 2004 exam. They can be VERY tricky if you don't read and understand the question completely.

                        This is my plan:
Study for Part 1 in May take the test in June
Study for Part 2 in June take test in July
Study for Part 3 in July take test in August.

That is if I pass the first time. I thought taking a month to study and studying everyday then I could take the test the next month.

                          You should be...

OK. You are very sharp! You've mentioned many things you take on and do well at, so this will just be one more.

Geekgirldany, E.A. Has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

                          Good luck to you!

                            More kudos

                            To Dave in Texas.

May I also add an invitation to join with us in NAEA and also in your home state of
Texas. Attend state and local chapter meetings, meet a bunch of people just like
you (and some who aren't!) and learn a lot by networking. Remember, you get out of
an organization in proportion to what you put into it.

If you want to get involved in representation work, I would recommend you start to set
your sights on NTPI, a three year program of NAEA.

Glad the TAxbook helped you. Our members over here do and buy a lot of them.

                              Congratulations

Dave ! I remember those 2 agonizing days. And I had studied real hard too. But, that is now behind you. Be sure to change your letterhead, business cards, and business signatures.
                              Well done!!

                                bragging rights

                                >>I just wanted to brag<<

You have definitely earned bragging rights! When my wife called me (some time ago) to tell me I passed, I didn't know what she was talking about! I had felt so overwhelmed by the test that it never occurred to me that I might have passed--I just put it completely out of my mind. It was a hard test.

I'm glad this forum was able to help. I think the group boosts the confidence and attitude about what is possible, as well as providing technical guidance.

Congratulations, and best wishes for your newly-energized career!
