    residential energy credits

If taxpayers file MFS and have energy credits can they both take the credit up to limit? i have a couple that paid $600 for insulation materials and $12,000 for windows. Can they both take the $2000 limit for windows?

          allocate

The qualifying costs must be allocated between the spouses according to how much each of them paid. See the instructions for form 5695 page 4 under "joint occupancy"
