Exemption - Child tax credit - EIC

    Brain freeze already!!!I

    Is this correct:

Two people have the same qualifying child, one cannot take the exemption and child tax credit and the other take the EIC. They have to decide which one will take the Exemption, child tax credit AND EIC. If they cannot decide the tie breaker rules would come into play.

I have a very hard time to grasp the new rules myself, or should I say, to make them stick.

I agree with your conclusion, but hope some one else will give his/her jep.

      kind of unfair

      >>Two people have the same qualifying child<<

It's kind of unfair, because if one of the parents were ABSENT they would be able to split the benefits with Form 8332. But if the child lived with both parents more than 1/2 the year, it's either/or.
