I have seen the commercial. They are making fun of the fact that you are "on your own" when a problem arises if using "do it yourself" programs.
Only in government or politics is a "cut in spending" really an increase. It's just not as much of an increase as they wanted it to be, therefore a "cut".

Isn't Tax Cut software from H&R Block? Why would they make fun of do it yourself people using H&R Block tax software?

Or do they mean they going to represent people free of charge at audit for buying and using their software?

Don't know about Tax Cut, but actually they kind of compete with themselves already. HRB and JH both offer classes in tax preparation, which I assume they have researched and found that not enough people stay with it to make any significant dent in their trade and besides which, it may furnish a pool to dip out needed smart students for temp seasonal labor.

Too, at one time they offered (and may still) audit "insurance" for a fee: "Gold Guarantee" from JH and "Peace of Mind Extended Service Plan" from HRB. Block's plan offered to represent the taxpayer at audit and to pay additional taxes up to $5K that were the result of Block's errors.

I heard that Block won't allow outsiders to take the tax courses anymore! can't verify this but just what I heard.

Everybody should pay his income tax with a smile. I tried it, but they wanted cash

                  Block course

As I heard it, students sign a "non compete" agreement in order to take the course.
Either they get an offer from HRB, or agree not to work elsewhere.

At first it sounded a little illegal, but when a person agrees to do or not do
                  something, it is legal.

Brian, is this a nationwide HRB policy? How did you confirm this?

                      Thanks for bringing that up!

I just sent my niece to the HRB course. I'll have to find out from her if she signed anything to that effect. They didn't say anything when I called to inquire if she could attend. She just finished the course in Nov.

Does anyone know if this is factual? It would appearf toviolate some states "right to work" laws.

                            Non-compete

Just wondering how or why they would make a student sign that. They will offer the student a job after the course is finished, but the student doesn't have to work for them. What would their options be then?

The employees do sign a non-compete before the season begins.
