    Drake Software Update School

Just got back from the one in Houston, TX. Totally waste of time. Quality of information was equal to 5th grade classes. I was expecting more in their book that was handed out. I was expecting more explanation and sample screens of the new stuff. Maybe I was expecting too much. Too much time was also spent on promoting bank products.

In fact, the seminar was supposed to last 9 - 12, 12:45 - 4. All relevant information that presenter had was finished at 11:45. Nothing to present after lunch except 2 more bank product presentations. One was presented in the morning.

Presenter limits herself to 1040EZ, 1040A, and simple 1040 obviously. And hustling them RAL's.

The powerpoint presentation jumped around so much, it didn't follow the handout. If the software operates in the same manner, we Drake users are in for a hell of a mess this upcoming tax season.

    Just my view.

Joe Btfsplk: I did find an Army retiree and he certainly did recall Rattlesnake Hill of the good old days, but the appearance of that area
would never indicate this to be the case now. You must have been here in the 40-50's. My first indroduction with S/A was in 1947 when
I joined the AF. It just ain't the same here anymore. Anyway it was nice chatting with you.

        Drake Software

For those of you that use Drake I had one question that you may be able to answer. Is there a way to print the return onto a cd for our clients instead of paper? Any help is greatly appricated.

          Printing Drake Return to CD

          Girard:

Install PDF995 from the Drake Installation CD.

This allows you to create a pdf file which can be written to a CD or emailed.

          Good luck!

Around here Rattlesnake Hill is a pricey gated community with a lot of attorneys.

              Drake 2007 Problems

Trying to use Drake to do a 1065 that dissolved and a 1120 that terminated. Form 4797 does not work.

Requested assistance using Drake support e-mail on the 1065 and 4797 2 days ago. No response yet.

Just sent request for assistance on the 1120 and 4797.

                Drake 2007 Problems

In prior years, you could attach a worksheet that was attached to the return. Very nice format and easy to use. For instance, you could attach a detailed schedule for Other Deductions on the 1120, Page 1, Line 26. Now there is a schedule with pre-determined descriptions that may or may not match what you are using. Not a very neat schedule now.

                  Hmmmm

I know my UltraTax is a lot more expensive, but I never have issues like the ones I hear on this board. Basically, you get what you pay for.
I would put a favorite quote in here, but it would get me banned from the board.

This early in pre-season, trying to use their preliminary release, I have obviously upset someone at Drake as I can't get responses to my e-mail regarding software problems.

Been trying for several days, to no avail. I get their standard reply with a tracking number, yet no follow-up. When I e-mailed that fact, I get no response. Whatever. It is going to be a long tax season, I fear.

If that is their reason for not replying to you (because they are upset at you) then they are very hypocritical. They didn't have any problem accepting your money did they?

It is probably because they hire people who know nothing. Have you tried calling and asking for a supervisor or owner?

It seems a growing problem (at least from my point of view) that very few try hard at their jobs. They tell you just enough to get by, offer no extra help.

When you do find someone who actually cares to do a good job, it is astounding.

                        Drake & Telephone Tax Credit

Anyone know if the telephone tax credit is going to be calculated automatically by Drake? I tried to get it to calculate on a sample return. No luck.

                          Drake Software-Telephone Tax Credit

Go to Screen 5-place a check mark at line 71.

Better yet, setup a macro for the input selection box; something like "Alt T=5>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>x~"

                          Works fine!

NOT TRUE I have been banned by both ATX and Drake. I am still looking for number 3

                              tax tyme

the Drake Software presenter is the problem - I quit her schools and filed a formal with Drake - she is in my NEVER FILE> the video you can buy is cheaper and better than she ever thought of being. have used drake for over 20 years and about 90% satisfied. have learned not to trust their equal signs as it does not always carry forward to State returns.
and therefore it has cost ME a lot in penalty money this year. my error - not really Drake error - but - I do love their software for the unique interface with multiple states. and have never had any problem with reply from questions asked. One reason for bank products so much time is they are trying to get all of us to use it - WHY the banks make money
but with direct deposit in four or five days - its a lost situation. E file will soon get rid of all of these quicky refund cesspools.
