    Online courses

I am interested in gaining a better ability to do tax research. Does anyone know of any courses (online preferably) that teach this subject? I would also be interested in courses to better my ability at taxpayer representation.

    Thanks for your help.
Only in government or politics is a "cut in spending" really an increase. It's just not as much of an increase as they wanted it to be, therefore a "cut".

      Online CPE

I have bookmarked the following Online CPE providers
      ASCE
      Bisk CPEasy
      CPE Depot
      CPE Online
      FunCPE
      The CPE Store
      PesCPE
      Western CPE

You can probably find most of them by typing their name followed by ".com"
If that fails, post a message listing any you need links for and I will post the link.
Some links have already been provided by other respondents to your message.

        Online courses

Thank to both of you for your input. I will check them out. I have used Fun CPE before and get several hours "online", but have not found anything yet about the subjects I was looking for.

          Courses

H&R Block has classroom courses in tax research and in taxpayer represention. They also have many online courses. Unfortunately, the two you're interested in are not presently online. You can find the nearest classroom at HRBlock.com.

            Thanks Lion

I'd heard about a CPA recommending H&R block courses years ago. They must not be all that bad.

Thom Tax is really Tom Turkey. He's hiding out on this message board to avoid losing his head.

Welcome aboard, Thom. Hope you enjoy posting on our board.

College Course in Tax Representation Online

                  Hi, Thomtax.

One source that I like very much is the Washington School of Law in Big Sandy, Utah. They have a bunch of online courses that qualify as CPE for CPAs and EAs, and CLEs for attorneys.

                  Here's one such course:

TAX 611 - FEDERAL TAX PRACTICE AND PROCEDURE
                  CREDIT: ( 34 CPE/CLE Hours; 3 Semester Units)
DESCRIPTION: Organization of the IRS, practice before the IRS, filing requirements, other return requirements, time for filing returns, tax payments, return preparers, disclosure of information, regulations, and rulings, examinations, administrative summons, administrative tax appeals, deficiencies and assessments, refunds, closing agreements, compromises, interest, penalties, collection of taxes, tax liens, levy and distrait, jeopardy assessments, bankruptcy, fiduciary liability, criminal investigations, fraud, tax crimes, tax court litigation, and district court refund litigation

They have had courses in tax research in the past, but one is not currently listed in their catalog. They are more expensive than most CPE courses, mainly because they are true college courses and go into much more depth. Each course is an elective in their Master of Taxation program. Though regionally unaccredited, they are fully licensed by the state of Utah and in good standing. Their accreditation is from a legitimate source, but, again, it's not one that is recognized by the DOE.

Their Master of Taxation is quite popular for several reasons: the online or videotaped lectures make it possible to earn the degree at home, the cost is quite reasonable for a masters degree program, and the professors have valid credentials and real world experience; you can earn your CPE at the same time as you earn your degree. There are many other advantages as well. If you only want one class, you may enroll in just that class; but you get a substantial discount by enrolling in the whole program.

Here's the url to their program: www.wsltax.org

You obviously don't get the whole picture. The reason that I am trying to do this work is because I lost my head a long time ago. Well - that's a lot better explanation than where some people think I have my head.:-)

                    Thanks for the welcome.

One would think that RIA, CCH, Kleinrock ATX,PPC, and others would offer such a course. After all, it is their business.

H & R Block has a new policy. They do not offer courses to Outsiders. Also, new students will have to sign a waver that they will not work for the competition.

Everybody should pay his income tax with a smile. I tried it, but they wanted cash

That is a shame! To me I thought the H&R course was great for new preparers. I would send all my new preparers to the course. Now I have nothing to feel good about H&R.
