The computer score for potential audits is lowered when the taxpayer uses the services of a paid professional. That is because historically, returns prepared by paid professionals are more accurate than self prepared returns. Maybe they also lower the score on the paid professionals personal return as well, for the same reason.

          questions about our return

<<The poll is about the tax preparer's personal return>>

Once my wife started asking some questions about our return, but I was able to distract her.

            It makes you wonder.

Over 630 hits on this thread, but only forty votes. I've been assuming this board is made up mostly of tax preparers, but thet low response level leaves open the question of "what's the profession of the bulk of the visitors to this site?"

Of course, some people don't want to click on anything on the Net and others just aren't interested in the subject, but most people I know like to click and vote on any kind of a legitimate survey. So -- what do all these people do (I'd do another poll, but I'm as tired of them as everybody else probably is)?

How about a poll for the best TV Westerns? Now that might get some votes.

I assumed that my personal return was meant

and that is why I needed a third choice. After I passed the EA Exam and before I got my first card I had to sign this piece of paper. It opened all my previously filed personal returns for examination and gave the FBI permission to investigate me by speaking confidentially with anyone who had known me within the previous five years. I don't know or much care how much of this actually happened, and I particularly didn't mind the potential audits. At that time all of my returns could have been calculated by the IRS from my W2s and sometimes the fact that I was a dependent of my parents. I do know that more people passed the exam that year than the FBI had the resources to investigate fully.

My personal return was selected for a random (TCP) audit. I received a small refund.

Too dumb to understand plain English

I too thought the question meant did any of my clients ever get audited. I need to retract my "yes" vote
In my 1st yearof prep business a new vending business client was called for an audit. Passed with flying colors. Gave me the confidence I needed to continue in the business.
