Have any of you folks had any experience with the HP 3000N InkJet printer. I am thinking of buying same. How long does the ink cartridges and printheads last. Average # of pages? Is it a good printer for tax returns. I now currently use an HP Laser Jet 2200D.and a Brother laser printer.

Go with a laser!

I would highly suggest moving to a laser printer. They are much faster and when you factor in the toner cartridges vs inkjet cartridges, you end up saving money.

I recently purchased the Dell Color Laser 3110cn and absolutely love it.

Laser Printers

The cheaper the laser printer, the more it costs to operate per page. You have to shop around for toner cartriges as the price can vary greatly. I never buy cartridges from the common retail chain stores. An internet search may yield much better results. I have an hp 8000. Cartriges can cost up to $175 at retail stores but I get it for $91 through my internet supplier. It takes 2 days to get it.

You can get a Re-man Laser 8000 cartridge the yields 15000 pages for 59.95, there appears to be no shipping charge.

I get my Laser 4100's high yied for 47.50. I also have an Epson 880, the color cartridge in Staples costs I believe around $37.00. This online supplier charges $4.50. I have used several of the Laser and Ink Jet cartridges, they all have excellent preformance.

There are refilles for just about any printer ever made on this site.

Inkjets

I'm with Veritas on this one. I got an inkjet for a backup and it uses a little cartridge that runs out of ink about every seven days with normal usage. Also, it's as slow as Christmas -- cranks out a page about every 10 seconds. Maybe the one you're looking at is a powerful model, but if not I'd go to lasers.

I had a Brother laser printer and upgraded last summer to a HP Laserjet 2420d. I love it. It does duplex printing fairly fast & saves me filing space. (I haven't completely made the leap to paperless yet.)

I only use my 4 in 1 inkjet for minor color printing, copying & faxing. In my opinion, they eat ink cartridges.

I can't imagine using an ink jet for tax returns and/or financials. My main printer is an HP 4250 that cranks out 45 pgs per minute; cartridges are a bit pricey, but I'm reluctant to use re-mans. Has anyone run into problems with them? How do they affect printer warrantees?

Reman's

Depending on who you use, reman's are very cost effective. Saving can be up to 50% or more. I have never bought NEW over my 35 years. They have no effect on warrantees to my knowledge.

The supplier I use takes back used cartriges with free shipping. I'm sure they rebuild them before they refill. I used to use a local guy but found his rebuilds' didn't hold up well. The new company does a very good job, I have no complaints.

Thanks for the tip! That's quite an enormous savings. It certainly sounds like it's worth a try.

But i recently got an error message from my Epson InkJet printer when using a 'staples' brand cartridge. You've never had a problem with 'inkgrabber' cartridges?

Pricing

Something you should consider is the amount of pages you get out of each cartridge. There are different reman's and the output needs to be compared with prices.
