    941 final return question

The smallest things! I have not had employees in my business since 2019. I have a payroll subscription with a co that did my 1/4's (yay!). The problem is that they will not mark the box in part 3 on the 941 that says that I no longer have employees. So, I haven't cancelled my sub because I don't want the IRS looking for returns that they won't receive. So, returns filed, no box checked. To make changes- IRS says file 941x. I can't find that same box on the X. Any ideas or am I overthinking it & can't see the obvious answer? Thank You!

Can't you cancel the service and just mail in the next 941 with the box checked?

    From the 941 instructions:

If you permanently go out of business or stop paying
wages to your employees, you must file a final return. To
tell the IRS that Form 941 for a particular quarter is your
final return, check the box on line 17 and enter the final
date you paid wages. Also attach a statement to your
return showing the name of the person keeping the payroll
records and the address where those records will be kept.

You may have other filing requirements for state purposes so you should make sure you jump through the hoops to terminate those as well.
