    Wonderful Online Electronic World

Corporate America and other institutions are making it virtually impossible to conduct business in any other manner than online.

They insist that you use their websites - with a login and password which has to be changed often, and verification codes sent to your e-mail address.

The glitz and glamour of this creates problems when their wonderful website is not maintained. And if you need help, forget getting someone to answer the phone. In fact they do offer "Chats" but you even have to navigate with another login just to be able to "chat".

Perfect example - tried to get a FEIN for an Estate twice today on the IRS.GOV website. Forget it - the process went into an endless loop asking the same questions over and over again - back and forth on the same pages. And of course, useless to try to reach them on the phone. I was advised to use a different search engine - tried three search engines - but no search engine can make the website work.

There was this news announcement from IRS recently... maybe related.

On Aug. 18, 2025, the IRS updated the Apply for an Employer Identification Number (EIN) online application as part of ongoing modernization efforts to improve taxpayer service. The modernized application features a new look and web experience. Federal, state and local government entities can now use the application to receive an EIN. Although the application has a new look, the overall functionality remains the same.
