    Just when you thought

Yes, we all are amazed when we think we hear the "grand champion" idiocy from our clients.

I've got to think hard to wonder if I've heard anything like this before...

Client has a farm - has had for a few years. So this year he buys a 2024 FORD F450 truck. (Those of you who know anything about trucks know what a beast and expensive this thing is). Drives it 4000 miles for Farm Use only.

This is not a 1975 Ford F150, or a hay truck with a long bed. It is a Ford F450. Brand new. Didn't keep a log because he thought Farm Use only means that he didn't have to keep one.

Needless to say, I told him to take his taxes somewhere else.

We are in farm country. So I know the prices of these vehicles. Had a client take out 160k out of their 401k to buy an F350. Frigging nuts !! Granted its personal use, but come on. A truck should be as Snaggle said !! A beater you can throw gravel in !! Or buy one a couple years old and save 60k !!!

Maybe they should have bought a tEsla cybertruck for $100K. It is a pickup truck after all, probably great for farm work.

I don't know much about these vehicles other than that they significantly out weigh most other vehicles that they might collide with on city and suburban roads.

But where does $160K cost come from? Several internet searches (for confirmation) show the cost of a F450 Super Duty Crew Cab Limited kicking off at $106,025.

Of course 20% was taken out for taxes. But a decked out F450 would run easily 120K. Adding a fifth wheel hitch, leather seats, entertainment system, sales tax, etc.. But personally I never buy new. Always a couple years old with low mileage. Well I guess I have bought two new cars in the past 47 years. That was back in the 80's and 90's. A 1996 Plymouth Voyager was the last new car we purchased. Back when we still had 4 kids in the house And to this day we still buy minivans !! Just so practical. Fold all the seats down and its a truck !! We have had 4x8 sheets of drywall, osb, and appliances in the back. Plus we haul gkids too.
