    Refundable AOTC

Customer (age 22 & not a dependent) provided more than 1/2 of her own support in 2024, graduated in June & then went to work full-time.
On the 8863 (line 7) I'm being asked to check a box if customer is under 24 for eligibility
Of the questions asked, do both parents being alive prevent the student from claiming the refundable portion of credit?
    Thanks for comments..

Not as long as student provided over half of their own support.

Missing an important qualifier - earned income exceeds half of support.

These rules are based on the Kiddie Tax rules so they don't follow the rules for dependency.
