Ohio Individual Return-Claiming a Credit for Taxes paid to NY

Client moved to Ohio in March. Paid taxes to NY State on W-2 income for all of 2024 There is Form Ohio NRC and IT RC. My software filled in NRC but the credit seemed too small. I called Ohio Revenue Dept and the rep said "complete both. If there is something wrong we will fix it." The credit on form IT RC looks closer to right to me. And the two together are not necessarily too much. Just wondering if anyone can tell me how to proceed before I just use both forms which I find hard to believe is correct.

You want to use IT1040 and ITRC. Client is a resident of Ohio now. We use Proseries and there is a area to let the program know the clients resident state as of year end. Maybe your missing a check box. But NRC is not correct.

Thanks for responding. I have double checked and I correctly indicated on the Federal Info Worksheet the residency status in Pro Series. Maybe there is a software bug. I overrode out the entries on NRC and am going with what you recommended. Makes total sense to me.

Your client would be a part year resident of Ohio, and a part year resident of NY. In ProSeries at the bottom of federal info worksheet is where you allocate income to each state. Then you don't have to deal with credit paid to other state, as there will be no tax paid to both states on same income.
