    Social Security 1099

We've been dealing for years with form SSA-1099.

For the first time this year, I'm still seeing SSA-1099 but now there is also SSASM-1099. What is the difference??

You tell us. Are there any different boxes on the two forms? If not, assume they are equivalent.

No difference. It just has to do with manner of delivery. SM is for self-mailer. If you pull online or request a replacement it's SSA1099-R-OP1.

Thank you. Yes, essentially no difference in the content, except they call the form something else.

It's not new. I have looked at some paper mailed and downloaded 1099-SSA forms over the last five years. In the lower left corner, in smaller print, they all show "SSA-1099-SM".
