    Best IRS phone # for tax return inquiries

    Is there a phone number that a preparer can use other than the 800 829-1040?
    Customer filed an amended 2020 return in Apri - before the 3 year statute of limitations expired, seeking a refund.
    Is it unusual to have 4+ months elapse and not hear anything?

          Not really. Personally, I would wait another two months before calling.
