    Form 1310

Elderly customer died in September 2023. Son is the designated personal rep in her will, but is not court certified
as everything was paid out per bene designation & TOD so there will be no probate.
Fed return has $3,500 refund. Owes to state.
Part #1 box #3 of 1310 seems to apply. Can the return be e-filed (seems to) or must it be mailed ?
E-filed one of these years ago, it took a long time for a paper check to be issued by IRS.
Would it would be better to paper file this return ?

Depends on your software. For some reason ATX will only efile if certain of the boxes are checked. I've heard most other software will efile no matter what boxes are checked.

I've had a few this year filing the 1310 where Part I box 3 applies; but I have always attached a completed and signed 1310 to the return and EFILED successfully (ProSeries Professional).
