Yesterday I was talking to IRS re error on clients form 941. They asked for POA and I faxed it to them while on phone. Then agent stated the 2848 was signed 7/06/06 and was only good for 60 days but he would go ahead and use it this time but to fax a new one w/new date. I searched and can not find where an expiration date is listed. If anyone knows, would appreciate a reply. (I still have the fax # of "Mr. Smith" and would like to advise him if he is incorrect.)
Also IRS agent said client did not submit a form 940 for 1999 and asked me to do so. I went to clients office and went through file boxes from 1999 to 2003 and could not find a completed form 940 for 1999. The amount is going to be very small (maybe ~$40.00) as the corporation is a holding corp for 6 other corps and only had 1FT & 1 PT employee during that time period. But there will end up being penalty/interest. What would you do? Wait for the IRS to send a formal notice or go ahead and submit one and then wait for the penalty/interest bill.
Thanks
Larry
