    MFJ vs MFS

    My customers have been filing joint returns but may have reason to want to file 2021 separately.
    Won't be able to have things ready to file by 4-18, so thought I'd file for an extension.
    My question is, if I file a joint extension request, would this prevent them from filing separate returns when they do file ?

    Have you read the last paragraph on page 2 of Form 4868. It might address your scenario.
