    2020 Unemployment exclusion and taxable social security

    So it was my understanding to figure taxable social security in 2020 the total amount of unemployment is used in the calculation and the exclusion amount didn't figure in. Just received a CP12 where IRS re figured return basing the taxable social security on income minus the exclusion amount and generating a larger refund for the taxpayer. Did something change? Anyone else run into this?

    Sorry I should of read a little deeper in the discussion. This tax season just isn't going to end LOL.

      Tax return was filed utilizing the UCE exclusion. Taxable Social Security worksheet included the full amount of the unemployment benefits. IRS has changed the return on May 24 to exclude the $10,200 from the calculation of taxable Social Security benefits resulting in an additional refund for client. Does anyone have any
