How can a head of household receive the stimulus for an aged parent who does not file taxes. The parent has been living with her for the past five years and she has never claimed her as a dependent in the other dependent category. Can she get the stimulus payment for the parent while filing the 2020 taxes?

If the HOH had any qualifying dependents (age is a factor), she either received EIP1 and EIP2 or now gets RRC1 and RRC2 on her 2020 tax return, and she receives EIP3 for ALL dependents (age is NOT a factor) this year via DD/mail/debit card.
If the aged parent is a dependent, she does not qualify for either EIP or RRC for herself. If the aged parent were NOT a dependent, she would receive RRC1 and RRC2 on her 2020 tax return (If she didn't receive EIP1 and EIP2), and receive EIP3 later this year. If parent receives SS benefits, she probably already received EIP1, EIP2, and even EIP3.

EIP3 only later this year to reconcile on 2021 return filed in 2022. The earlier EIP/RRC had an age limit to match the Child Tax Credit. HOH will get NO credit on her 2020 tax return unless she has some children.
But either the parent is a dependent or is not. What changed that she was not in 2019 but you say she is for 2020?

What changed is that the tax payer did not realize her mom could be on her tax return as a dependent. This is her first year with me as a client. As part of tax inquiries and questionnaire responses I got to know about the mum and I informed the tax payer she could add her as a dependent to get the $500 OTHER dependent credit.
