Today I had another client who misplaced notice 1444 and claims never received 1444-B BUT he had his Ipad with him and he logged in to his bank account. I asked him to search the deposits by US TREASURY and there it was. Both the deposits were posted though reduced because of his income.

So another way to figure out if the client had it direct deposited and has access to online banking is to search for US TREASURY and look for dates around April 2020 and January 2021.

That's what I am doing. Had a TP tell me he did not get either, and he got both. Don't people balance their bank accounts any more?

After debating with myself if it was an overkill, I developed a 2 line statement that I insert in my letter with the return that clearly states that the amounts in the RRC were reported by the taxpayer and NOT verified by IRS. If there is a discrepancy the IRS records will be used and refund/balance due changed. There is a possibility of penalty and interest on balance due returns. The only time I don't insert that language is when both EIP1 and EIP2 letters are presented to me.

Two clients did not like that caveat BUT then I said I don't have a crystal ball to figure out what you received. Either you confirm it or IRS will do that for you for a small charge!
