    Car Salesman - Dealer Incentive

W2 employee from large car dealer.
Also receives 2 1099-Misc from Nissan North America totaling $4,900

Gut tells me this is SS income - but why wouldn't it just flow down from the dealership?
If someone has something solid to READ I would greatly appreciate the link.

    Regards,

    Matthew Jones

Manufacturer’s Spiff- or sales incentive. Report on Schedule 1, line 8. It’s not subject to SE tax.

See Pub 525, p. 33, the center of the page.

IRS also used to publish Pub 3204, which doesn’t seem current. You can find a historic copy with a search online. It’s specific to the issue, and more fully explained than in Pub 525.

But it is simply ‘Other Income.’ Besides car sales, I have clients in two other industries who receive Spiffs regularly.
