    Internet Security

    Hey Folks:

A non tax question: Which Internet Security do you prefer, Norton or Mc Afee?

Comcast offers Mc Afee for free.

    Thanks All

With free stuff, remember that you get what you pay for. I had McAfee on my home computer from Dell and was having too many problems with trying to get e-mail or install other programs. I finally had to disable and remove the whole program.

    Norton works OK.

Norton’s Anti Virus has always worked fine for me.

What I don’t know about is Norton Internet Security. It wants to shut off Windows Internet Security. Plus, I found that some of my network stuff doesn’t work with Norton Internet Security turned on. I have to disable it in order to access the hard drive of another computer on the network.

Is there a setting or something I am missing? I can’t find anything. Plus I have heard horror stories from others about tax software conflicts with Norton Internet Security.

McAfee has been a nightmare for me everytime I have been forced to deal with it. Norton has not been without issues but has been far superior to McAfee. I'm not an expert by any means but I think the conflicts Bees mentioned are fixable within the settings. I would guess you are on a server network. We are on a peer to peer and can access other hard drives as long as the owner has allowed sharing.
In other words, a democratic government is the only one in which those who vote for a tax can escape the obligation to pay it.

          McAfee

I have used it for years and it has done a great job for me. Recently though, I had to remove everything except the virus scan program as there has been conflicts with the spamkiller and fire wall programs. Norton, I have heard, has the same problems. I'm sure it is the "set up" configuration but I don't have time to play with it, nor do I think I should have to.

When I get a chance, next year or if notified of a fix, I'll see if MS and McAfee or Norton have fixed the conflicts that are going on currently. Maybe MS is not playing it fair with these internet security providers????

I had problems with Norton Internet Security and will not use it any longer. The tech guy from Gear up recommended AVG as antivirus and ZoneAlarm as firewall.

I had to deal with a crashed computer over the summer, bought one from Dell with MacAfee on it but will soon install AVG and Sygate. Sygate was installed before and I never had any problems with it. It was recommended by my phone company.

              Internet Security

I was having so many problems with Norton and McAfee, especially Norton. I was listening to a computer program on the way to work one morning and the two guys were raving about Panda Antivirus, so I junked Norton and gave Panda a try on all my computers. I love it.

I've only had one or two questionable items get through, but I believe you'll find that with any antivirus program, no one program can catch everything. I run the Panda scan every few days along with Ad-Aware, just as a precaution. What one doesn't catch, the other will.

Also, no problem with my network.

Currently I use Micro Trend's PC-Cillin. I onced used Norton, and also tried MacAfee, both of which caused me touble. For over 2 years now I've been trouble free.

It's not always true. For example: Look at Linux. It's superior to MS, in Europe used in large companies and offers at lot of free stuff for the little guy. Sometimes the desire to offer an exellent service or product, using the internet as a tool, makes this possible.

I would look at review and opinions on the internet and talk to people, talk to people, talk to people.

I use Trend Micro Internet Security and Spy Sweeper from Webroot. I switched to Trend Micro three years ago after using Norton for many years. It does not bog your system down like Norton and is simple to install and set up.

                      Norton

I have had bad experiences with McAgee and have always had a good experience with Norton. I recently bought a new computer that had McAfee already installed. When I went to install Norton, it automatically uninstalled the McAfee. Yea, that made my day!!

                        Norton Internet Security

I've used Norton Internet Security for four years and have been very pleased. It has done very well in picking up any virus and has been real easy to get updates. I turned MS firewall off and have Norton firewall as
                        my main one.

                          Zone Alarm Security Suite

I had been a McAfee user but started having lots of problems. Several computer consultants recommended Zone Alarm Security Suite to me. I installed it in December and it has been working well. It does significantly better at catching spam & junk mail than McAfee ever did. Best of all when I purchased it there were two rebates out on it so it ended up being free after I filled out the little forms.

I know one client who had a huge problem with Norton & QuickBooks not playing well together the beginning of the year.

I used Norton for several years then this spring started having trouble with it and switched to Micro Trend's PC-Cillin. So far, no problems.
