    Filing joint affect on medicaid

Would filing MFJ even tho taxpayers live separately affect one spouses eligibility to be on medicaid. He receives SSI & social security & qualifies for medicaid. She receives social security and pension & is not eligible for medicaid.

Look at The TaxBook 13-29 and the Medicaid website

NOTE: from the The TaxBook 13-29
    Medicaid
Medicare and Medicaid are not the same program.Medicaid is a state-run program that provides hospital and medical coverage for people with low income and little or no resources. Each state has its own rules about who is eligible and what is covered. For more information, contact a local medical assistance agency, social services, or welfare office.

It may depend on the circumstances of why they qualify for Medicaid, and it depends on which state (the rules for Medicaid qualification vary from state to state).

So as was pointed out above, the taxpayer needs to ask the Medicaid office in his/her state about it.
