    Amended EIP Return

OK, so it took the IRS what, two months? - to divulge this very complicated guidance, because I'm sure no one could figure it out any sooner. I can only imagine that amended EIP returns already filed without the writing at the top will be mailed back to the taxpayer unprocessed?

"Duplicate returns related to Economic Impact Payment (EIP): If a filer used the Non-Filers tool to register for EIP, they cannot file a subsequent tax return electronically. They must complete a paper Tax Year 2019 Form(s) 1040/1040-SR, print and write “Amended EIP Return” at the top, and mail the return to the IRS. "

Good to know, thanks for sharing. So, if 2018 Tax Return was filed 4/2020, filing status: MFJ, with the husband as Taxpayer, and the husband received his EIP portion only (probably due to him receiving Soc. Sec), but since the wife does not receive anything, she apply on IRS EIP as "nonfiler", and still have not received anything. When they file their 2019 Return as MFJ would the guidelines above apply or can they proceed as usual since the husband is the primary filer?

They can proceed as usual (efile the return). If it is rejected as a duplicate on the wife's SSN, then the guidelines above apply.
