Those of you who subscribe to the IRS email news channels (highly recommended) know by now that they have announced that sometime (no date provided) later this year, IRS will accept efiled Form 1040-X filings. (Slowly following the lead of several states which implemented this years ago).
In the press release it says:
"The new electronic filing option will provide the IRS with more complete and accurate data in an easily readable format to enable customer service representatives to answer taxpayers’ questions. "
Huh? How will the new electronic filing option enable customer service representatives to answer taxpayers' questions? I thought they already were supposed to be able to answer taxpayers' questions.
And how will the efile option be "more complete and accurate" than paper filing? Is the efile version going to ask for more information than is filed on paper, which will still be an option? (Not to mention, how can something be more complete, or more accurate? Isn't it either complete and accurate, or not?)
Do they even bother to proof-read this stuff before sending it out?
