Stimulus Check Received but not forwarded to different address

What can be done in this case?
Taxpayer whose legal residence for tax purposes is in New York. During winter-spring time lives in Florida.
During this time period post office transfers the NY mail to Florida address.
Except they don't forward government checks.
Client received the stimulus check in mail to NY address (as that's what is shown on tax return)
Post office didn't redeliver to Florida.
What happens to undelivered mail, and how (while IRS is shut down now) can the client obtain the check via Get My Check if IRS hasn't voided out the original check?

You said they don't forward government checks (which seems weird to me), but does that mean they send it back to the government? Or is it just sitting in a mailbox or post office somewhere in NY?

Client claims post office sent it back to government - not sitting in post office - he checked.
Also - he's a senior citizen who collects Social Security via bank account. Could it be that the envelope was a confirmation of check rather than the check itself?

If you can get a reply poster to provide you exactly what happened with your client's check and what the "envelope" is about when you do not even know, that would be the BEST reply poster on this website!
