Why am I getting "Payment Status Not Available?" - Questionable if reliable

Though client totally eligible for payment and does not fall in any of the reasons lisited below, but keeps getting the following message: Payment Status Not Available

Why am I getting "Payment Status Not Available?"

In certain cases, the Get My Payment app will be unable to tell you the status of your payment. You may receive this message for one of the following reasons:
    • If you are not eligible for a payment (see IRS.gov on who is eligible and who is not eligible)
    • If you are required to file a tax return and have not filed in tax year 2018 or 2019.
    • If you recently filed your return or provided information through Non-Filers: Enter Your Payment Info on IRS.gov. Your payment status will be updated when processing is completed.
    • If you are a SSA or RRB Form 1099 recipient, SSI or VA benefit recipient – the IRS is working with your agency to issue your payment; your information is not available in this app yet.
You can check the app again to see whether there has been an update to your information. Get My Payment data is updated once per day, so there’s no need to check back more frequently.

I am likewise having trouble discerning a pattern.

I have seen people who filed 2018 only or both 2018 and 2019 get that. Even people who have used Direct Deposit for both 2018 and 2019 are seeing that. I thought that one person in this situation might be getting the message because that individual was a Social Security recipient (and maybe the IRS wanted to cross check the bank information which has not started), but I checked with another taxpayer in a similar situation.and they had already received their payment.

Some have suggested that the IRS might do these in numerical order. Others have suggested they are starting with the lower incomes. In the cases I mentioned, the higher income received the payment and their social security numbers also started in the same range (though the one who did not receive the payment was slightly higher [3rd digit was 1 higher]).

Like I said, I cannot figure out what causes that beyond what they posted, but there are definitely other reasons.

Another issue is Clients with dependents under 17 are getting the full stimulus for the dependents.. But no $500 stimulus for dependents 17 or older. Am I missing an issue about the child additional $500 stimulus?

Not sure if I am misreading what you posted, but I believe that the additional $500 is for Qualifying Child Dependents under the age of 17 as of the tax year of the return used. Hence they should be getting $500 for each dependent under the age of 17 but nothing for dependents of any kind who are older than 17.

Not sure which of these is not happening. Please clarify.

The Law stated the dependent had to be under 17 yrs old. 17 and older by this don’t get the $500.
