It appears to me the the extended filing dates of July 15 also apply to Form 709 Gift Tax Return. It this is the case, it sounds like filing an extension today (4/15) is not necessary based on IRS Notice 2020-20. Am I missing anything on this?

You are good to go. Form 709 is also extended to 7/15. I have one client that will need to file 709 and I was rushing that and finally the good news came. His 1040 was already extended .Taxes after all are the dues that we pay for the privileges of membership in an organized society. - FDRComment
