    2016 Tax Return to claim a refund extended to 7/15

    Notice 2020-23. The deadline for filing a 2016 tax return to claim a refund, normally April 15, is extended to July 15. The return must be postmarked by July 15.

    This is good news. I have one on my desk that I was rushing to get done by 4/15.

        How about amending the 2016 T/R to claim a refund?

          This is what the notice says:

          Taxpayers also have until July 15, 2020 to perform certain specified time-sensitive actions that are due to be performed on or after April 1, 2020 and before July 15, 2020. This relief includes the time for:
          • filing all petitions with the Tax Court;
          • filing an action for review of a decision rendered by the Tax Court;
          • filing a claim for credit or refund of any tax; and,
          • bringing suit upon a claim for credit or refund of any tax.
