    Age Change for RMD

    Is it true that beginning 2020 the RMD age is 72?

      Yes. Unfortunately one of my clients turned 70 1/2 in late December of 2019 so she still needs RMDs. But anyone who had not yet turned 70 1/2 in 2019 is under the new age 72 rules.

          My understanding is :
          The first required minimum distribution for a taxpayer that becomes age 70 1/2 during 2020 begins at age 72.
          If a taxpayer had attained age 70 1/2 during 2019 he/she must follow the pre SECURE ACT rules for RMD's.
