    Form 5498 SA doesn’t match W-2

It’s a minor problem, but I wish to avoid IRS scrutiny. Box 12 on client’s W-2 has code W for $5590.08, while he also received a Form 5498SA with box 2 showing $5640.00. Both of these amounts fall under the limit for contributions, but I’m not sure what the IRS checks for compliance in their system. My software pulls the lower amount to Form 8889. My suspicion is an error on the W-2.

Should I adjust something, or am I overthinking the situation.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

I’m checking that and the accuracy of the W-2.

It's a small difference, and guessing it just has to do with timing. Last paycheck withheld amount may not have been deposited to HSA account until January.

W-2 would be actually withheld in calendar year. Does 5498 use withheld FOR 2019 or IN 2019?

several of these that I checked hr said do to timing. Either last check of first check. Not enough diff to trigger anything my way of thinking.

Maybe a little interest accrued for the account so the taxpayer's $5590 contribution grew to a value of $5640?
