It is also now available for 2018 returns. However, that form is not in my 2018 software, so it won't calculate the 1040X correctly. Question: do we amend 2018 on 1040X or actually take it on the 2019 1040, using separate forms for each year? I have been unable to find any clarification. The instructions say to use the new form (Rev. 1/20) for 2018, 2019, or 2020 qualifying expenses. I would assume we would amend 2018 for those expenses paid in that year.Last edited by Burke; 02-26-2020, 04:02 PM.

I already have my work cut out after tax season for 1040X work related to this and residential energy credits.Taxes after all are the dues that we pay for the privileges of membership in an organized society. - FDR
