on form 8889 -2017 with MFJ line 3-both 55+. both eligible full year. I need one 8889 for each person. Do both get the $3400+ $1000 (over 55)= $4400. or do we need to split it or only one take it. Any comments will be helpful. thanks.

You realize even tho both had an HSA on a MFJ return they will only be allowed the max deduction in 2017 for a family plan. See the instructions for 8879: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i8889--2017.pdf
