Ca mfs

Sad I have to ask this, but in all the years I have prepared taxes I have never had a couple file MFS for CA. It's a relatively easy situation. Both full year residents. Both W-2 incomes and itemized deductions. On the CA return, does each show their own income and then itemized deductions get split? I keep reading about income being split equally but when I model MFS out in my software, each spouse shows their own income. Apologies ahead of time for a question I should know the answer to. I'll blame on it on my brain being fried this late in the season. Thanks in advance

I'm not in a community property state so may have some numbers wrong, but you don't model it out as MFS in your software, you model it out on Form 8958 and read those instructions and Pub. 555.
