I don't do 1040-EZs. Nor 1040As for that matter. I'm not doing any 1040-EZ Ts either. They pay me for a 1040, period. No exceptions. Minimum fee $100. Don't like it? Stop wasting my time....go someplace else.

        Line enrty only.......

......... is the way I would handle this. I can't be concerned with prior clients who are no longer required to file. This deduction is not for dependents, so kids are out. It would take too much time to review client lists to see who qualifies.

With that said, I do have clients that call every year that are borderline filers. Would I have to do their tax return in full to get to the telephone tax credit? If I just fill out the "T" form am I going to do it manually or set up a complete computer file with storage of that file. What fee can be charged and what goodwill is lost when a fee is charged? Can not charging a fee create any goodwill and to whom?

I'm inclined to not process any "T" forms.

I agree with a 30 or 60 dollar refund it is not much but I think you leave it up to the client charge like 10 or 15 dollars to fill it out and let the client decide if it is worth it or not. I don't think it will create any illwill , clients need to know that your time is worth something.

I would have a few blank 1040EZ-T with instructions and if any clients who walk-in or only need to file for refund of telephone credit, have them fill the form themselves (fill in there name and SS# and amount) and mail it to the IRS. If they don't want to fill the form, then I could charge them $$.

                government already knows

                >>nobody wants their phone cut off<<

Withholding tax is not the same as not paying a phone bill, and protestors did not get their service cut off. Many of them put the money in a formal escrow account pending the court actions. In every case, the government already knows who did not pay that tax.

                  Free money

Can I e-file my 1040EZ-T? Where's my refund? Can I take your fee out of the refund? Why can't I get the refund check today? How much do I get from the state? You charge too much.

                      I won't charge

I won't charge my regular clients for this credit, and I doubt many of you will charge yours either. I won't do the EZ just like I don't do 1040EZ, but I'll provide a free form for taxpayers (that is, non-taxpayers) who want to do their own.

                        Gold Mine

This could be a gold mine!!! Are you all kidding me that you would not do this form for 10 or 12 dollars for just 5 minutes of work. If you wont do these returns because they are under your skills send them my way. I would hire some new person fresh from the block school to pump these out all day long. No one could screw these up with just one line on them and a good typest. Send them my way and I will do them!!

Remember, this form is for people you don't need to file. How many people do you know that don't need to file? You could hire someone to do these forms all day, but you will be losing money.
