    California itemized deduction

Taxpayer is 77 years old. Her house was paid off. There is no mortgage interest for her home. She asks if she can use itemized deductions on California tax return.
Her income has Social Security, Traditional IRA and bank savings. She has medical expenses, property tax for home, charitable donations, and DMV vehicle fee.
    Thank you for your advice.

Sure, but she wouldn't want to unless they were higher than her standard deduction. This is true for all CA taxpayers.

CA decoupled from federal, so she can take standard on her federal return if that's more generous and itemize on her CA return if that's more generous.
