    Return of ACA stipends

    Client register for Obamacare received a small stipend after 4 months he withdrew from Obamacare he got married and went on his wife insurance the marketplace is asking him for his money back because the household increased

    Depending on the circumstances, you may not be able to 'get around it'.

    Some POSSIBLE options to reduce the repayment:
    1. Have clients contribute to a deductible retirement account (such as a Traditional IRA) or Health Savings Account (if they qualify) to lower their income.
    2. File as Married Filing Separately.
    3. Both of the above.
    4. Use the alternative calculation for the year of marriage to reduce the repayment (your software should have an option for that)

    If none of those are options or reduce the repayment, then the client needs to repay part or all of the Advance credit.
