Form 1099_MISC Payer's EIN

I know the TAX ID of the Payee on a Form 1099-MISC can be masked.

Can the Tax ID/EIN of the Payer be masked too?

Yes, on specified copies.

Do you mean the Payer's tax ID on the copy given to the recipient can be masked? But sometimes the payer's tax ID needs to be entered to the tax program if the recipient uses a software to file his tax return.

Like my tax program, when I go to the 1099-MISC screen to enter the information, the Payer's Tax ID is required to be entered.

I don't believe the payers number can be masked. If he is using SSN and doesn't want people to see it, just have him get an EIN.
