    Washington State Tax preparation

Calling all Washington state pro tax preparers...(S.O.S.)
I am new to Washington State and I am unsure as to how to file Federal income tax returns here, for both Businesses and Individuals. My software company says only excise tax and local tax on the state's website for the business filings...No federal filings ?? How about Individuals? Yes , I am a rookie tax preparer who recently moved to WA state. Please advise me. Thank you!!

Washingtonians file Federal income tax returns just like everyone else does. Be aware that it is a community property state however. This is important when filing MFS returns and when taxpayers die.

WA does not have an individual income tax, so nothing to do there.

There are business taxes, but that's not my strong suit. You can find out about them here: https://dor.wa.gov/

Yes, Washington State does not have a state income tax for individuals or for other entities. We have a B&O tax for business, real estate taxes for property owners, sales taxes on most everything purchased, and miscellaneous other taxes such as litter taxes, excise taxes, etc. But no income taxes, not even in Seattle.

All federal filings are just like any other state, as Maude said above. And as she points out, we are a community property state, one of 9 states. So you will have to update yourself on how community income and property works. It is very rare to have a MFS filing in this state. It can happen, but it is rare.
