    Distribution from Coverdell ESA

Taxpayer received a 1099 Q in his son's name & SSN (Elementary Student) that is claimed as a dependent on his return.

    Box 1 Gross Dist. 3642.71
    Box 2 & 3 are blank
    Box 4 Trustee-to-trustee transfer Yes
    Box 5 Coverdell ESA Yes
    Box 6 Blank

I am not reporting this because the son's standard deduction would wipe the amount out any tax.
I have only done a few 1099-Q's and they were with college students.
I may have answered my own question but would appreciate any comments

A trustee-to-trustee transfer (to another Coverdell ESA or 529 plan) is not taxable, regardless of the beneficiary's standard deduction, as long as he meets the other rules (under 30, etc.) Box 4 is checked YES. This is not required to be reported on the TP's tax return, and the TP should not receive any notices from the IRS. TP should have gotten Form 5498-ESA from the receiving institution confirming the rollover, (which the receiving institution reports to the IRS).
