    Bees Knees

Bees, are you going to attend the EA mtg in St. Cloud in Sept? If so, I'd like to meet you.

I wasn't planning on it. Armando is scheduled to do an ethics thing at one of the EA meetings later this fall. I was planning on going to show my support by throwing rotten eggs at him. Otherwise, I think I will be at a couple Jennings seminars in Detroit Lakes and Minneapolis, if I can get in. I think those are through the MN CPA society. I was also thinking of doing the NATP famous 1040 workshop. I suppose I should get to it and register for something before it is too late.

When I do make up my mind and register, I will let you know.

Have you attended the NATP 1040 workshop before? I have heard very good reports about this seminar for years. If you have, have you had the opportunity to attend all 4 days, which includes a variety of subjects like LLC/Estates, etc.?

They have a date set in San Diego that I might like to go to.

      Thanks,
      Dennis

Hi Dennis, it's me, not Bees. I envy you for all CPE opportunity you have in CA. Guess I can't have quite roads and CPE choices, can I?

I have attended several of the 1040 workshops by NATP including Estates/Trust. I have found them to be very helpful. The 1040 goes over all the new changes in tax code as well as highlighting things that us (me) old folks forget. The Estate/Trust was good too, but I have forgotten so much that I need to take it again. I hear that the CPA society puts on an excellent 2 day seminar on trusts/estates endorsed by GearUp.

            Gabriele,

The traffic going from my house into San Diego is not bad, but right now, Del Mar racetrack is going on and traffic is terrible! That will be over soon and back to normal. Aside from that, it's OK. Once I start to enter SD, I want my Mom in the car with me!!! I get so lost and to me, the volume of cars and unfamiliar surroundings is frightening. This seminar is the first week in December.

If you are having trouble locating places to attend seminars and need credits, why don't you purchase the CPE course TMI is offering new this year? Price is not bad at all.

Also, last year Sandy told me about a site called FunCPE. All online and you receive a certificate within minutes of submitting your exam. It's per course pricing. You choose your course and can save your work to come back to at a later time (this can be a little tricky, but I think they have made this process easier!). Here is the link: http://www.funcpe.com/

Another one is CPE Depot. About $150, but unlimited courses for the year, same format as FunCPE. Here is the link: http://www.cpedepot.com/welcome.asp

Anyway, give these a peek and see what you think.

              Larry,

What do you mean "old"? I'm sure you meant to say "seasoned"!

Thanks for your suggestions about the seminars. I don't attend as many seminars as I'd like to, but I've heard such good things about this one over the years and thought I would try it this year.

              Thanks, again.

You can get some good hours here at reasonable prices. Good selection too.

                  Bart,

I will explore the site when I have a little time. Took a "look-see" and it looked OK. Prices did look a tad high at first glance, but you're getting more credits, also.

                  Thanks for the tip!

Thanks guys. I printed your tips so I will have availabe when needed. I really like the live seminars better and guess, than I am stuck with Gear up. I would have liked to try something else. Not that I ever was not satisfied with Gear up.

                      Gabriele,

I'm like you. I really like the live seminars much better. If I hear something, I remember it much better than if I read it. I've always been like that. Others are just the opposite. I guess we all register things differently!

                          Gabriele:

I get 16 hours of CPE (a "refresher" income tax course) locally each year at a live seminar jointly sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and our state's "big" school, the University of Arkansas. It might be worth your while to check and see if your state offers one. The USDA handles their part of the deal through their Cooperative Extension System which is in place all over the country.

The cost here is reasonable ($140) for a two-day seminar. Here's a USDA website about the Co-op and maybe you can find something through it. If you can't, they have offices in each county seat of all the states and you could call for info. You can also get seminar information from your schools (Montana State or UM?), but it's sometimes hard to get through to the right office and find someone that knows about the programs. Ask them if they work with USDA to conduct a tax school.

Bart, that's a good idea, only it doesn't really work in Montana. MSUB offers something similar but most who attended these seminars through them switched over to Gear up. That's not really good advertising.

That’s it. I can’t sit through any more seminars than that in one year. If you want to meet me, look for the guy wearing glasses in the back of the room.
