I have a client who in 2007 rented one floor of his two family house and used half the cost for depreciation. Then in 2009 moved out the house and rented the entire house but neglected to add the other half of the cost to depreciation. he sold the house in 2017 and realized that the other half was never picked up. Can it me added now going back to 2009, even though he lost the benefit of the depreciation and it will be deducted in the sale? Is it barred my statute?
